poll.ee is a minimalistic web application built with Codeigniter that allows people to quickly and easily create polls and share them with their friends. You can connect with your twitter account, or not... you don't need an account at all to create a poll, which I believe is it's most valuable feature.
As the Web Developer for the Virginia Tech Office of Undergraduate Admissions, I was tasked with creating an online registration system for campus visitors. The Visit Management System is how we keep track of visitors, the schedule, and a whole lot more. This system is an integral part of the department and is used every day.
This system, allows us to keep track of visitors for all information sessions, campus tours and special events like Open House. In combination with the Visitor Management System, welcoming visitors to campus has become a much more streamlined process.
Nothing beats a burger tray and a milkshake at Cook-Out. For those of you unfamiliar with Cook-Out, Google it. My friend, Kevin and I thought of creating an iPhone app for Cook-Out that would feature the menu, list locations close to you along with their respective hours and even a random milkshake flavor generator.
81 Traffic is a site that displays incident and traffic data on Interstate 81 in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Data is pulled every minute from Virginia's 511 XML feed. On a mobile device, instead of just looking at different colored roads, you can see what mile marker that accident occurred, a description of what happened, and how long ago it happened.
Bull & Bones Brewhaus and Grill opened in late 2008 and has become a staple in Blacksburg, VA known for great food and it's delicious beers. Their website used to be... meh. The new site was built on Drupal and has a lot of nifty features for the owners to manage the content themselves.
In December of 2010, I set up a pick'em app for college football's bowl season just for fun. I hope to eventually resurrect the site for future seasons.
I'm getting married to my beautiful fiancé on June 23, 2012. I set this website up to provide information to our guests about our big day.
At Virginia Tech, there is a building off campus called the "Math Emporium". It houses over 500 iMacs for students to study, and take quizzes or exams. My good friend, Kevin Cupp and I set this site up to track seat availability minute-by-minute. Kevin also made an iPhone App.
Since my brother purchased his fancy new Canon dSLR, he's made good use of the sweet video feature. I set him up a really simple one-page site to feature his videos. The site was built using the Perch content management system.
Hokie News is a monthly newsletter Undergraduate Admissions sends out to prospective students. Until recently, each newsletter was created manually in Dreamweaver and uploaded to the site in a complicated folder structure that didn't really make any sense. I moved the Hokie News site into Wordpress for our PR specialist to easily create these newsletters and manage them in a way that made sense.
Encore Events, Inc. is an event planning company out of Cary, NC. This site was developed back in 2008 and really hasn't been touched since then. A re-design is in the near future. It is built on the Perch content management system.
